How does volumetric concrete mixing work?
Unlike drum mixers that carry pre-mixed concrete from a batching plant, volumetric trucks carry separate bins of cement, sand, stone, and water. When the truck arrives at your site, the ingredients are mixed in a mixing auger at the rear of the truck. This allows us to deliver fresh concrete, adjust the mix design in real-time, and stop mixing when you have the exact amount, ensuring you only pay for what you lay.
What is the minimum order quantity for concrete delivery?
Our minimum delivery quantity is 1 cubic metre (1m³). Because we use volumetric mixers, you do not need to worry about ordering too much; you will only be charged for the exact quantity mixed and placed on site.
How much notice is needed to book a delivery?
We recommend booking 24 to 48 hours in advance to secure your preferred morning or afternoon delivery window. How long do I have to unload the concrete truck?
We provide 10 minutes of free offload time per cubic metre of concrete. This is usually plenty of time for barrowing or direct pouring. If offloading takes longer than this allocated slot, a demurrage charge of £2.00 per minute will apply.
Can I pour concrete in the rain?
Light rain is generally not an issue, but heavy rain can wash cement out of the surface layer, weakening the concrete and causing a dusty finish. If heavy rain is forecast, it is best to cover the area with plastic sheeting or reschedule the pour.
What is the difference between a line pump and a boom pump?
A line pump uses flexible steel and rubber hoses connected along the ground, ideal for residential properties with narrow side gates or indoor pipes. A boom pump uses a hydraulic overhead arm to lift concrete pipes over obstacles such as house roofs, walls, or fences. Line pumps can reach up to 150m+, while boom pumps are rated by their overhead height reach (e.g., 20m - 47m).
How do I calculate how much concrete I need?
To calculate concrete volume, multiply the Length × Width × Depth (in metres) to get the volume in cubic metres (m³). For example, a slab 10m long, 4m wide, and 100mm (0.1m) deep requires 10 × 4 × 0.1 = 4.00m³. We recommend adding a 10% safety margin to account for uneven ground excavation.
How long does concrete take to dry/set?
Concrete begins its initial setting process within 1 to 2 hours of mixing. It will be firm enough to walk on carefully after 24 to 48 hours. However, it takes 28 days for concrete to reach its full design strength (e.g., C20 or C30). Heavy vehicles should not be driven on a driveway for at least 7 days.
